Cuyahoga County Celebrates America 250 with Signature Events

County-led events will showcase local history, community pride, and contributions that helped shape America

Cuyahoga County, OH - As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, Cuyahoga County is proud to host a series of signature events that recognize the people, places, and moments that have shaped our great nation. From historic landmarks to community gatherings and cherished traditions, these events highlight our County’s role in the American story, while bringing residents together to embrace our shared history.

“America 250 is an opportunity to reflect on our nation’s past while celebrating the people, landmarks, and events that continue to shape its future,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. “Our signature events will bring residents together to experience our County’s most treasured places, honor our story, and create memories that will last a lifetime. We invite everyone to join the celebration.”

Rediscover Veterans Memorial Bridge Tour, Saturday, June 27
Step into history at the Rediscover Veterans Memorial Bridge event. Take a stroll through old streetcar level, explore the original subway stations, and walk along the trolley tracks where Clevelanders once commuted. Visitors will also learn about plans to revitalize the lower level of the bridge and surrounding areas. The Bridge Tour is free and runs from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to sign the waiver now to save time at the entrance.

Picnic in the Park, Presented by KeyBank, Saturday, June 27
Bring a friend to Picnic in the Park, hosted by Cuyahoga County and Canalway Partners, to celebrate America 250. The event will feature food, drinks, entertainment, and games, along with history tours in Canal Basin Park. Those looking for a little more adventure can try dragon boat paddling with the Cleveland Dragon Boat Association. Picnic in the Park is free and runs from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Canal Basin Park.

Spirit of America Celebration, Wednesday, July 8
Celebrate our freedom and be part of history in the making! Join communities across the country in the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. On July 8, we’ll gather at the Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Monument on Public Square in downtown Cleveland for a powerful reading of this historical document. The celebration kicks off at 5 p.m.

Cuyahoga County Heritage Tree, Thursday, September 17
Get ready to roll up your sleeves for this America 250-Ohio celebration. Each county, including Cuyahoga, will plant a native white oak tree in honor of our nation’s birthday. We will host a special tree planting ceremony at Lake View Cemetery on September 17 at 1:30 p.m. Let’s root for the future as we plant a legacy that will grow for generations!

Cuyahoga County is hosting these events in partnership with the America 250-Ohio Commission.
