The County will introduce legislation for a levy renewal and increase

Cuyahoga County, OH - Cuyahoga County leaders announced plans to place a Health and Human Services (HHS) Levy renewal and increase on the November ballot. This funding will ensure critical services continue for our community's health, well-being, and growth.

The proposed levy would renew the County's existing 4.7-mill tax levy and increase it by 2.5-mills. If approved, it will help the County’s Department of Health and Human Services offset the financial pressures caused by devastating federal cuts, increased costs driven by inflation, and growing needs of our residents.

"This levy is an investment in the well-being of our residents,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne. "For generations, Cuyahoga County residents have made it clear a strong safety net is a top priority for our community. We protect children, support older adults, expand access to behavioral health care, address homelessness, and ensure families can access the services they need to live healthy lives. As needs continue to grow and costs increase, we must make sure these vital services remain available for everyone who depends on them."

If approved, the Health and Human Services Levy would provide approximately $110.76 million in additional funding for a broad range of programs that touch every corner of Cuyahoga County including placement costs for children in our custody, supportive services for seniors and the unhoused, ADAMHS Board, MetroHealth, Juvenile Court, and more.

“Every day, our team works tirelessly to support children, seniors, and families navigate some of life's most difficult challenges. This levy will allow us to maintain existing services and respond to the growing and evolving needs of our community,” said David Merriman, Director of Cuyahoga County Department of Health and Human Services.

Without additional local funding, residents could lose access to lifesaving and life-changing programs and services at a time when they need them most.
