Public Works Seeking Input for Miles Road Bridge Replacement Project
Residents and stakeholders must submit comment by December 5, 2026
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works (CCDPW), in coordination with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is proposing to replace the Miles Road Bridge (SFN 1830783) over the Chagrin River in the Villages of Chagrin Falls and Moreland Hills. The bridge is located approximately 500 ft southwest from the intersection of Miles Road and Solon Road. The existing bridge was built in 1915 and underwent the last major rehabilitation in 1978. The bridge is in poor condition and structurally deficient. Additional work includes pavement replacement, sidewalk and driveway repairs, and utility relocation. See the included attachment for map of the project location.
Temporary (just for construction) right-of-way will be needed for the project. If right-of-way acquisition of your property is necessary, a real estate representative will contact you directly at a later date to discuss the acquisition process and your rights under that process. A full closure of the bridge is also expected during construction. Traffic will be detoured to Solon Road, Cannon Road, SOM Center Road, and Miles Road (see the anticipated detour map below). Access to all properties nearby will be maintained and detour signage will be posted prior to road closures. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in the fall of 2028 and will last approximately 9 months.
Environmental studies are currently underway. While the project may temporarily affect habitat used by bats, any necessary tree removal will take place only between October 1 and March 31 to protect these species during their summer roosting season. Construction may also result in short-term impacts to the Chagrin River and river recreation. Appropriate permits will be obtained before construction begins.
We welcome your questions and comments. CCDPW is seeking public comments to help evaluate the proposed project's potential impacts on the community, environment, and local economy. Residents and stakeholders are invited to share input on topics such as neighborhood impacts, air quality, floodplains, historic or cultural resources, and other issues of concern. To be considered during project planning and development, comments should be submitted no later than December 5, 2026, using the contact information below.
