The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has issued a special alert for individuals with eligible children that receive Social Security retirement, survivor or disability benefits (SSDI), Railroad Retirement benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Veterans Affairs beneficiaries who didn't file a tax return in the last two years.

If you are included in one of these groups, you will need to immediately register with the IRS to receive the $500-per-child stimulus benefit without a long wait.

The deadline to register dependents is 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

Register at the IRS website

If you miss the deadline, you will still be able to receive the $500-per-child payment, but it will not be added onto the $1,200 stimulus checks. Instead, you will have to file a 2020 tax return and then wait for payment, according to the Social Security Administration.
