These three words sum up the purpose of the community outreach programs the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department has to offer.
As 2016 comes to a close, there still is time for you to get involved in one of our most popular community programs – Strategies Against Violent Encounters (S.A.V.E.)
S.A.V.E., established in 2013, focuses on equipping county residents with physical and mental skills that may help them prevent a violent encounter. SAVE is free and available to all county residents – men and women.
Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Joe Skovira instructs the classes by providing thought-provoking lectures, and interactive demonstrations.
“The S.A.V.E program teaches residents the importance of personal-protection. We use the term personal-protection, because this implies awareness, and awareness is a major focus point of the program. We want to empower our residents with the tools to recognize a potential violent encounter before it occurs. The class will show you how to use the most powerful weapon in your possession – your mind,” said Deputy Skovira.
Our next class will be held on October 13th at the Cleveland Heights Recreation Center (5:30pm – 7:30pm). While registration isn’t required to attend, it is preferred. If you are interested in attending, you can sign up here.
Additionally, if you’d like to make a request to bring the S.A.V.E. program to your community, you can do so here.
The Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department would also like to thank 90.3 WCPN and Cleveland 19 for producing stories on the S.A.V.E. program and helping us get the word out. I firmly believe that we can continue to make a difference through positive and meaningful community outreach.
