Is your city ‘ReadyCertified’?

by Macklin Flinn , Emergency Management Specialist, Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management
On the evening of Monday, September 25, 2017, Mayfield Village received the prestigious ‘ReadyCertify’ award and certification from the Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management (CCOEM). ReadyCertify is a voluntary standards-based emergency management accreditation program that allows both municipalities and organizations to examine and improve their emergency management programs and capabilities. The intent of the program as it was designed by CCOEM is to help communities and organizations better prepare for and respond to large-scale disasters or emergencies.

In the wake of recent tropical storms, local residential flooding, and evolving human threats, it is imperative that we as a community continue to better prepare ourselves to be proactive and vigilant in preparedness. Mayfield Village and numerous other Cuyahoga County organizations and jurisdictions are renewing their commitment to preparedness through the ReadyCertify program.

Since the inception of the ReadyCertify program in 2014, a total of 18 municipalities and 2 organizations have received official certification from CCOEM. That includes the jurisdictions of: Bedford, Solon, Bay Village, Olmsted Falls, Pepper Pike, Independence, Walton Hills, Oakwood, Glenwillow, South Euclid, Moreland Hills, Olmsted Township, Brooklyn, Mayfield Heights, the Village of Woodmere, and now Mayfield Village. The two organizations to be named ‘ReadyCertified’ are Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Metroparks. Currently, several other jurisdictions and agencies are pursuing certification.
