October has proven to be a busy month for the Global Center for Health Innovation (Global Center). Within a week, not one, but two major announcements were made - ones that will significantly accelerate the momentum of the Global Center.

On October 16th, BioEnterprise, a leader in growing the Northeast Ohio biomedical industry, announced they will devise and implement a plan to handle the Global Center’s marketing, programming, and tenants.

Through an agreement reached with the Cuyahoga County Convention Facilities Development, Corporation (CCCFDC), BioEnterprise will aim to attract innovative companies as tenants, support startups, and bring meetings and conferences into the building.

“As the champion of our region’s biomedical sector for the past 15 years, BioEnterprise’s presence at the Global Center will help accelerate its transformation into an active center for health innovation,” said County Executive Budish.

Additionally, BioEnterprise will establish an office in the Global Center, with more than 20 employees working in business development, marketing, and finance.

A week later, the Global Center was back in the news during Cleveland Clinic’s 2017 Medical Innovation Summit. Cleveland Clinic and Jumpstart Inc, announced a three-year partnership with Plug and Play to create the “Plug and Play Cleveland HealthTech Accelerator”. The accelerator will focus on biotech and digital health innovation in the Global Center.

Beginning in Spring 2018, the accelerator will operate two cohort programs annually. The HealthTech Accelerator team will evaluate hundreds of startups from across the globe, which are then vetted down to cohorts of at least 10 companies every six months. Cleveland Clinic, JumpStart and all Ohio-based collaborators will also make every effort to encourage participating startups to stay in Cleveland post-graduation.

Silicon Valley’s renowned Plug and Play has been recognized as one of the most successful and largest accelerator programs in the world. This new Cleveland location is the first Plug and Play location outside of Silicon Valley.
