Join Us for Celebrate Trails Day

Executive, Chris Ronayne riding bike with Cuyahoga County citizens

This year, Bike Cleveland, in partnership with Cuyahoga County, Cleveland Metroparks, Cleveland and Garfield Heights, is hosting the county-wide Celebrate Trails Day event.  The community is invited to go for a casual bike ride with Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne, Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian Zimmerman, many local mayors, and more! This special ride will begin and end at the Iron Springs Picnic Area in Garfield Park Reservation, with a route that highlights established and upcoming trail projects and roadway enhancements.

Celebrate Trails Day is a national initiative of Rails to Trails Conservancy (RTC) designed to get people across the nation outside using trails and bikeways and to kick off the walking, hiking, and biking season.  Individuals, communities, and organizations can create a trail or bikeway event, register it with RTC and promote it locally and nationally.  This effort not only provides enjoyment and community building, it also shows elected officials how important bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is to our residents.

Celebrate Trails Day is the official kick-off of Cuyahoga County’s Bike-with-a-Mayor season!  Bike-with-a-Mayor is an initiative of the Cuyahoga Greenway Partners to raise citizen awareness of the Cuyahoga Greenways Plan and inform people of trail and bikeway project opportunities within their communities.  It’s also a way for mayors and council members to engage with their residents and showcase any other projects, developments, or initiatives of interest in their communities.  County Executive Chris Ronayne is a strong supporter of this initiative and works to participate in as many of these events as possible.

Featured speakers of the 2024 Celebrate Trails Day event include: County Executive Chris Ronayne, Cleveland Metroparks CEO, Brian Zimmerman, Garfield Heights Mayor, Matt Burke, and Bike Cleveland CEP Jacob Van Sickle. Bike Cleveland has, and periodically updates, all of the details, including the route, weather alerts, etc. posted [bikecleveland.org/bike-cle/events/celebrate-trails/2024/02/]on their website.

Dates for each community’s Bike-with-a-Mayor event are posted on the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission’s Cuyahoga Greenways website as communities develop their schedules.
