New Corrections Center
The existing jails at the County Justice Center are no longer capable of serving the needs of Cuyahoga County.
Cuyahoga County is in the process of developing and constructing a new corrections center. The new facility will embrace best detention practices and promote social justice.
Justice Center Executive Steering Committee
The Justice Center Executive Steering Committee meets to gain updates from the project team, provide feedback, and make critical determinations for the future of the Corrections Center.
About the Project
What purpose does a new corrections center have?
The new Cuyahoga County Corrections Center will replace the aging, outmoded jail facilities currently located at the Justice Center. The new facility will embrace best detention practices and promote social justice.
Why is the project needed?
Current facilities are outdated, obsolete and inefficient, both in terms of physical condition and ability to meet the programmatic needs of a properly functioning and humane justice system. The current operational and maintenance costs are unsustainable and wholly disproportionate to the residual capital value.
Will this be an expensive project?
A new corrections center would provide an estimated minimum annual operational cost savings of $13.9 million for the County. The existing jail facilities are expensive to maintain and would require a significant investment to extend the life cycle of both jails.
Where will it be located?
That has not been determined yet. The Justice Center Executive Steering Committee is assessing sites throughout Cuyahoga County.
Can I share my feedback on site selection?
The County welcomes feedback from residents. This project may impact where you reside and work. Community understanding, input, and support is necessary to ensure that the facility properly serves the community while being a good neighbor.
