Cuyahoga County Conducts 2025 Disparity Study
The study will assess opportunities for small and diverse businesses in the County
CUYAHOGA COUNTY – Cuyahoga County launched a comprehensive study to analyze the opportunities available to small and diverse businesses in public contracting and the local marketplace. The purpose of the study is to determine whether these businesses are operating on a level playing field and to identify any disparities or barriers that may hinder their ability to compete fairly.
“Our small and diverse businesses are essential to our community,” said Lenora Lockett, Cuyahoga County Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “This study is an important step toward ensuring that all businesses, regardless of size or ownership, have a fair shot at working with our County. By identifying and addressing any existing barriers, we are committing to a stronger, more inclusive local economy that benefits everyone.”
A national economic consulting firm, Keen Independent Research, will conduct the assessment, which will include a survey of area businesses to identify companies available to work on specific types of County contracts and subcontracts. Study team member, Customer Research International (CRI), will be reaching out to businesses by phone in the early months of 2025. Local study team member S&A Consulting Group will be conducting in-depth interviews with local businesses and trade associations.
Cuyahoga County will share the findings from the study with the public and plans to use the insights gathered to inform future policies and programs. “Cuyahoga County encourages small and diverse business owners, as well as other stakeholders, to participate in this study and to share their experiences and perspectives,” adds Lockett.
