FitzGerald Announces Streamlined County Org Structure

CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive-Elect Ed FitzGerald announced today a new, streamlined county staffing and organizational structure, which includes positions such as the independent Inspector General and Regional Collaboration Director. The new county government cuts the number of organizational units by 50 percent. The new county organizational chart was outlined today as the county prepares to transition to a new executive form of government on Jan. 1, 2011.
“The new county government places a specific focus on economic development, regional collaboration and ethics,” said FitzGerald. “County government must provide better services at lower costs and this new organizational structure will help us do that.”
The new executive form of government will eliminate or consolidate functions of the 10 different departments into four areas – Justice, Economic Development, Human Services, and Operations.
“The new county government emphasizes economic development and job creation to help us promote Cuyahoga County and foster common-sense cooperation among different cities,” said FitzGerald. “We have established the position of Regional Collaboration Director to work on economic development opportunities among cities, as well as efficiencies and cost savings across the region.”
The new government will also include an independent Inspector General to prevent waste, fraud and abuse within county government. The independent Inspector General will have the ability to root out corruption and malfeasance.
“The Inspector General and the Integrity Audit that is currently underway will play vital roles in this new government because they will help ensure that the problems of the past don’t plague our county as we move forward," FitzGerald said. “The Inspector General will ensure that the new county government is operating with the utmost integrity and professionalism.”
FitzGerald also noted that the new government organization will continue to evolve as needed.
The new organizational chart is attached and the position descriptions will be available at the official site of the Cuyahoga County Executive Elect later today. The Transition Committee is currently accepting applications for these positions, as well as applications for various Boards and Commissions positions, which are also available on the “Employment” section of the transition website: www.ONECUYAHOGA.com.
