FitzGerald Announces Transition Advisory Members, Launches Website, Communicates with Transition Volunteers

County Executive-elect Ed FitzGerald, in the first day after his election as Cuyahoga County’s first County Executive, 1) named the members of his transition advisory committee, 2) launched an early version of the Transition Committee website, 3) sent communications to the over 1000 volunteers who participated in the transition process, and 4) named transition staff to begin working with members of the Transition Advisory Group, Cuyahoga County Transition Executive Committee , and the twelve Transition Workgroups.
“I appreciate the support of Cuyahoga County voters and have learned that they have high expectations for our new government, so we wanted to get to work immediately”, FitzGerald said.
FitzGerald named the following Cuyahoga County leaders to his Transition Advisory Committee:
David Abbott is executive director of The George Gund Foundation and previously served as president of University Circle Incorporated, executive director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and executive director of the Cleveland Bicentennial Commission. Abbott was also the Cuyahoga County administrator and, early in his career, a reporter for The Plain Dealer.
Andres Gonzalez is the Director of Diversity & Community Outreach for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. His responsibilities include development, implementation and evaluation of diversity and inclusion initiatives. He oversees the creation, implementation and evaluation of Community Outreach initiatives and provides consultation and inservice training for community/government agencies.
Sharon Sobol Jordan is the President and CEO of the Center for Families and Children (CFC), one of Northeast Ohio’s largest non-profit human service providers serving over 11,000 children, families and individuals each year. Jordan previously served in an eight-year public career with the City of Cleveland, primarily as its Law Director and special counsel to Mayor Michael R. White. Prior to that, Jordan worked in the private sector as a partner in the Cleveland law firm of Schneider Smeltz
Ranney & LaFond.
Frederick R. Nance serves is the Regional Managing Partner of Squire Sanders and Dempsey, operating out of the Cleveland office. Mr. Nance was recently elected by his partners to serve on the firm’s worldwide, seven-person Management Committee. Mr. Nance's legal practice focuses on sports and entertainment law, commercial litigation, client counseling and public-private partnerships. Much of his practice in recent years has included high-stakes negotiations involving community interests.
The Transition website – http://executive.cuyahogacounty.us/ – will soon begin to provide regular information about the transition process and opportunities for participation in the process now and in the future.
FitzGerald also sent an email to the over 1,000 volunteers who participated in the transition process. FitzGerald called their work “public spirited” and that it reflected “the widespread community support and commitment to making our county government the best it can be.”
Finally, FitzGerald also named Matt Carroll, Director of the Cleveland Department of Public Health since 2002 and currently under Mayor Frank G. Jackson, as Staff Director for the transition operation. Carroll will be taking a leave of absence from his duties at the City of Cleveland and will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of transition activities, under the leadership of Executive-elect FitzGerald. Additional staff to the transition operation will be named shortly.
“There’s a great deal of work to be done, and we want to do our best to move forward as quickly and efficiently as possible,” FitzGerald commented.
