FitzGerald, Business Leaders Form Loaned Executive Task Force

CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive-Elect Ed FitzGerald and local business leaders announced today the formation of a Loaned Executive Task force. This new public-private partnership will recruit individuals to help implement recommendations and lend technical expertise on various aspects of the transition.
“We need to do things differently if we’re going to be successful as a county,” said FitzGerald “This partnership represents a new approach that will provide expertise for the transition and help us build a better county government from the ground up.”
Duane Thornton of the President's Council; Oliver “Pudge” Henkel of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation; Paul Clark, regional president PNC Bank; and Daniel Walsh, Regional President for Huntington Bank in Cleveland will serve as co-chairs for the task force. Nick York, Chair of the Business Practice group at the law firm of Tucker, Ellis and West will coordinate the execution of the program for the transitions team.
Additionally, specific outreach and recruitment efforts will be made through the Cleveland Leadership Center, Business Volunteers Unlimited, the Greater Cleveland Partnership and other organizations. William Reidy, the Chief Finance Officer under then-Mayor George Voinovich and an original Loaned Executive, also participated in the announcement.
“We have a tremendous opportunity to strengthen our county government by drawing on great local resources and talented individuals from all sectors,” said Duane Thornton of the President's Council. “I’m pleased to be a part of this unique effort and I look forward to working with the FitzGerald transition team.”
The task force will help formalize and implement many of the recommendations brought forth by the 13 different work groups that provided input during the transition. Several areas where task force participants are expected to provide specific expertise include information technology, financial management and human resources.
"We have a rare opportunity, not only to make Cuyahoga County government a standard-bearer of efficiency and cost-effectiveness, but to convert newly found resources into other opportunities that could make a real impact on the citizens of Cuyahoga County,” said task force co-chair Pudge Henkel.
The task force will work with corporations or individuals who have an interest in supporting the county's efforts and match skills with the needs of the transition operation. The Loaned Executive Task force could provide support from ranging from an advisory role to a sustained engagement for an extended period.
“Northeast Ohio is fortunate to have a strong network of talented leaders,” said Paul Clark, Regional President of PNC Bank. “This task force provides a valuable opportunity to further engage the business community in the future of county government.”
