County Executive-elect Ed FitzGerald is holding separate meetings today with Brooklyn, OH Mayor Richard Balbier and American Greetings CEO Zev Weiss to attempt to assist both parties in addressing the future of American Greetings in Brooklyn.

American Greetings, a $1.6 billion company with 18,000 employees, including 2,000 in Brooklyn, Ohio, announced in January this year that it was considering moving from its current location.  According to published reports, American Greetings’ tax revenues amount to $3 million annually or 13% of the City of Brooklyn budget.

“A major mandate of the new government in Cuyahoga County is to take a leadership role in economic development.  There is no higher priority for my incoming administration than to retain a stalwart Fortune 500 company like American Greetings in our community,” said Executive-elect FitzGerald.

“I understand how important American Greetings is to Brooklyn, from my experience as the Mayor of Lakewood.  I want to do everything I can to maintain that relationship in Brooklyn,” said FitzGerald.

American Greetings is the nation's largest publicly held designer and manufacturer of greeting cards, e-cards and other social expressions products.
