CLEVELAND — Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald has nominated Richard W. Sensenbrenner to serve as the next county treasurer.

Sensenbrenner, who is a certified public accountant, currently serves as commissioner of accounts for the city of Cleveland. Previously, Sensenbrenner served as treasurer for the city of Columbus, where he also served as a city councilman from 1996 to 2004.

The county treasurer is responsible for issuing property tax bills, collecting taxes, and guiding county investments.

“Sensenbrenner offers a wealth of experience for this very important role,” FitzGerald said.

Until this year, the county treasurer was an elected position in Cuyahoga County. The new county charter approved by voters in 2009 calls for the county executive to appoint the county treasurer subject to confirmation by the County Council.

FitzGerald submitted Sensenbrenner’s nomination to Council on Friday. Mark Parks is currently serving as acting treasurer. He replaced acting treasurer Robin Thomas, who retired last month.
