FitzGerald, Cuyahoga County Award Euclid Police/Fire Close to $280,000 in New Communications Equipment

“We at the Euclid Police Department are truly thankful to Cuyahoga County for taking the leadership role in promoting improved inter-agency communications throughout the County. This radio system enhancement is only possible because of the County’s willingness to make upgraded equipment available to communities throughout Cuyahoga County,” said Euclid Police Chief Thomas Brickman. “This radio system change will ultimately enhance our abilities to communicate with our neighboring agencies, and provide superior communication capabilities for all of our officers.”
Departments that have previously received radio units include: Bay Village, Bedford, Bedford Heights, Berea, Brook Park, Fairview Park, Garfield Heights, Maple Heights, Middleburg Heights, North Olmsted, North Randall, North Royalton, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township, Parma Heights, Rocky River, Strongsville, Warrensville Heights, Westlake, and Woodmere Village
“It has been a goal of this administration to become a nationwide example of radio interoperability,” added Norberto Colón, who serves as FitzGerald’s deputy chief of staff. “As such, our focus has been on allocating these radios to communities wanting to join standards-based shared radio system, which allow for the highest level of interoperability.”

Public Safety Interoperability Initiative has provided over $3.8 million in radio needs
CLEVELAND – Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald announced the distribution of 110 new radios to the City of Euclid Police and Fire Departments – the largest number of radios awarded to a community thus far.
“Often, large scale emergencies are not restricted to a single municipal boundary, which is why it’s so important our emergency responders have interoperable communications. Cuyahoga County remains committed to focusing on interoperability, so that our brave first responders have the technology to share vital information across jurisdictions,” said County Executive FitzGerald. “Since 2012, we have been able to provide close to $4 million dollars total for communities in support of the Public Safety Interoperability Initiative.”
A total of 1,469 units have been distributed to various police/fire departments, with each unit costing approximately $2,600 (totaling $3,819,400). FitzGerald’s administration distributed radios as followed:- May 2012 – 799 units
- May 2013 – 365 units
- June 2013 – 26 units
- April 2014 – 140 units
- July 2014 – 139 units
- Total – 1,469 units
