Sheriff's Department Adopts Families for Holiday

“The holidays can be financially challenging, and it’s important for us to give back to the community during the holiday season,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “I applaud the entire Sheriff’s Department and Division of Children and Family Services for coming together to provide a little extra holiday cheer for these families.”
The Division of Children and Family Services provided the Sheriff’s Department with 4 families to “adopt” throughout the east and west side of Cuyahoga County. Families provided a list of names, ages, and a “wish list” of needs, such as clothing and age appropriate toys to help make their holiday extra special.
“Law enforcement isn’t all about policing, it’s also about giving back to the residents of the communities we serve,” said Sheriff Pinkney. “I’m proud of our entire staff across the board, from our detectives to our corrections officers, for their generous donations to help bring smiles to families this holiday.”
Sheriff’s Department employees, including law enforcement, corrections, and administrative, funded the voluntary program through personal donations from their own pockets. This year’s families included three families of 5, and one family of 7 individuals.
“Our adopt-a-family program is something that has grown in the past few years. Each year more and more families get “adopted” by a local business, church group, or even just other families. It offers a personal touch and connection that draws people to this option,” said Kristin Gardner, Children and Family Services Outreach Coordinator. “This year we had over 20 families “adopted”, 4 of them by the Sheriff’s Department, who not only took the time to purchase and wrap the gifts, but also hand delivered them to their families.”
