Daniel Mabel awarded AAFS Outstanding Early Career Achievement in Forensic Science Award

CUYAHOGA COUNTY
– Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas P. Gilson, along with the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) Past Presidents Council congratulated Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office Forensic Scientist Daniel Mabel, for being awarded the AAFS Outstanding Early Career Achievement in Forensic Science Award. The award honors individuals that demonstrate leadership and outstanding achievement through contributions that have served to advance forensic science.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by the premier national forensic science organization for both leadership and achievements,” said Dr. Thomas Gilson. “We are very proud of Daniel and grateful to have such a talented scientist in our agency.” Daniel Mabel, a Forensic Scientist in the Trace Evidence Department, has been with the Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (located in the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office) since 2011. He routinely performs examinations in the trace evidence sub-disciplines of fibers, paint, tape, bloodstain pattern analysis, physical fracture matching, and more.

In addition to his active membership in the AAFS, Mabel is a member of the American Society of Trace Evidence Examiners (ASTEE), the Midwestern Association of Forensic Scientists (MAFS), the International Association for Identification (IAI), the International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts (IABPA), and the American Chemical Society (ACS) – where he serves on various organizational committees.

“I am honored to receive this award from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences Past Presidents Council. I would like to thank Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson and Trace Evidence Department Supervisor Curtiss Jones for nominating me for the award, and for their support and encouragement since I began my career at the Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory almost eight years ago,” said Daniel Mabel. “I hope this award serves less as a reflection of my own accomplishments than as an acknowledgement of the exemplary work being performed every day at the CCRFSL.”

The award will be presented at the AAFS Annual Business Meeting, which will take place on February 20th, 2019, in Baltimore, Maryland.
