CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Cuyahoga County is continuing to work with partners from across the region to deploy over $6 million through a Small Business Stabilization Fund, comprised of loans and grants, to support small, neighborhood-based businesses that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, the National Development Council (NDC), one of the County’s key small business assistance partners, has approved and funded over $2 million in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans to 21 businesses in the County.

The PPP is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll. Each PPP loan is made by Small Business Administration (SBA) Lenders, including NDC’s Grow America Fund. The SBA will forgive loans if all employees are kept on the payroll for eight weeks and the money is used for payroll, rent, mortgage interest, or utilities.

“I and our Department of Development along with many crucial partners are working to make sure we are able to get as many resources as possible out to our local small businesses,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish. “Without the National Development Council’s $2 million in PPP funding to small businesses, we would have lost 283 jobs. I encourage businesses to apply for PPP loans as there are still funds available.”

Any small business can apply for PPP funds through their regular bank of business or a community serving lender, such as National Development Council.

Applicants can apply for NDC PPP funds at ndconline.org/ppp/.

“We want businesses to know PPP funding is still available and we are committed to helping businesses navigate through these challenging times. We are proud to serve our local businesses and have witnesses several success stories as a result of this program,” said National Development Council President and CEO Daniel Marsh.

“Take for example JWT&A LLC, a minority-owned construction firm located in Cleveland. John Todd, who owns the firm, applied to his bank for a PPP loan; however, his application was not successful. Through the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, Mr. Todd learned that the National Development Council is providing PPP loans. Within days, Mr. Todd filled out his application and was approved for a loan. He is now working to restart several construction jobs and bring back his employees.”

Businesses Assisted through NDC’s Paycheck Protection Program Include:
  • Computer Systems Design Services
  • Specialty Food Stores
  • Environmental Consulting Services
  • Beauty Supply
  • Child Day Care Services
  • Offices of Real Estate Appraisers
  • Machine Shops
  • Office Administrative Services
  • Contractors
  • Child and Youth Services
  • Wholesalers
  • Home Health Care Services
  • Social Advocacy Organizations
  • Dentists Offices

Small business owners can learn more about the PPP and get help applying by calling the Small Business Resource Center at 216-452-9714 or by visiting the Cuyahoga County Small Business Resource Center webpage.
