Toolkit Contains Recommended Best Practices for Communities in Cuyahoga County

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability has released its second “Sustainable Cuyahoga” toolkit, filled with recommended best practices for communities in Cuyahoga County looking to increase their sustainability efforts.

The first “Sustainable Cuyahoga” report was released in 2016. Since then, communities have made big strides toward reducing their carbon footprint and have adopted policies and protocols to help make a lasting impact in the region. Therefore, along with advancements in technology and resources, the toolkit has been updated to reflect current best practices going into 2022.

Over 40 local experts were interviewed and provided recommendations for the toolkit, which is broken down into nine sections. They include:

  1. Air Quality
  2. Green Building & Historic Preservation
  3. Energy
  4. Food
  5. Land Use & Development
  6. Solid Waste
  7. Transportation
  8. Trees & Land Management
  9. Watershed Management

Each section contains helpful data and extensive best practice information to help communities and businesses, no matter where they are in their sustainability journey. They also contain direct local contacts for the individuals in Cuyahoga County best suited to help implement various recommended programs or provide additional information on services and resources.

“Now more than ever, leaders need to be looking at how we can set up generations of current and future residents for a prosperous and vibrant region, and that starts with high environmental and sustainability practices,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “This report is a great resource for communities and businesses looking to decrease their carbon footprint and contribute to an enhanced quality of life for our residents. It’s never too early to begin working on climate change prevention and doing good for those to come.”

“National, state and local governments and communities all have a duty to positively impact the climate and environment,” said Sustainability Director Mike Foley. “Luckily, we have some strong leaders and example projects in Cuyahoga County that can be called upon for advice, support and guidance in helping our region move forward.”

The full “Sustainable Cuyahoga” toolkit can be found on the Cuyahoga County Sustainability Department website.
