County Sheriff’s Captain Steven Hammett Named Interim Sheriff

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – Cuyahoga County Executive Armond Budish has named Sheriff’s Captain Steven Hammett as Interim Cuyahoga County Sheriff.

Captain Hammett has over 30 years of law enforcement experience. He has been with the County Sheriff’s Department since September 27, 2021. Prior to his work at the County, Captain Hammett served as the Chief of Police for University Heights and Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Shaker Heights. He most recently served as Chief of Public Safety for the Cleveland Institute of Art. Captain Hammett has completed specialized certification through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

“Captain Hammett is a long-time law enforcement professional with a proven track record of leadership in our community,” said County Executive Armond Budish. “I am confident in his ability to lead the Sheriff’s Department as our law enforcement staff continue to protect and serve the residents of Cuyahoga County.”
