CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH –The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works and the Ohio Department of Transportation are seeking public input on a project to rehabilitate the two bridges on Warrensville Center Road over the GCRTA Green Line in the City of Shaker Heights. Improvements include replacement of the bridge deck, roadway, drainage, traffic signal improvements, and installation of a shared use path across the northbound (east) structure.

The project is necessary to rehabilitate the existing two bridge structures. Construction is expected to begin Spring of 2023 and last approximately two years.

A small amount of temporary (just for construction) right-of-way will be needed from an adjacent property. All other work will be completed within City property. Some impacts to utilities are expected. Environmental studies are currently ongoing, but no environmental impacts are anticipated.

During construction, it is anticipated that at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during peak traffic hours via crossover lanes. Construction will be broken into four phases:

  • During the first phase, work on the east bridge (northbound) will begin, and traffic will be directed to the west (southbound) bridge.
  • During the second phase of construction, work on the west (southbound) bridge will begin, and traffic will be directed to the newly constructed east bridge (northbound).
  • During the third phase, traffic will be directed to the outside lanes of each bridge for median construction and pavement repairs.
  • During the fourth and final phase, the project area will be resurfaced, and pavement markings will be installed. Traffic will be maintained in both directions via cones and flaggers.

Access to the fire station and GCRTA station will be maintained at all times throughout construction.

Cuyahoga County and ODOT believe that public input is critical to our decision-making process. We welcome your questions and comments. To ensure your comments may be considered during project development, please submit them no later than September 3, 2022, via the information below:
