Cuyahoga County Council’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Community Grants Support Critical Municipal Services to Benefit County Residents

Last year Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), providing much-needed financial relief to state and local governments recovering from the pandemic. Earlier this year Council President Pernel Jones, Jr. and the County Executive agreed to reinvest $66 million of Cuyahoga County’s ARPA funding to directly benefit county residents in the form of community grants.

County Council has received over a hundred grant applications and has begun awarding grants to municipalities and non-profits that provide critical public services.

To-date, County Council has awarded over $33.6 million to support a wide array of projects that benefit county residents, including:

• Road repair/streetscaping projects in North Randall, Shaker Heights, Strongsville, & Middleburg Heights;
• Community center/senior center improvements in Cleveland, Bedford, Highland Heights, Warrensville Heights, & Parma;
• Park and playground improvements in Euclid, Olmsted Falls, Beachwood, Richmond Heights, Bay Village, North Royalton & Berea;
• Trailway improvements in Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls, Pepper Pike, & Highland Heights;
• New city service vehicles in Euclid, Orange, Woodmere, & Lyndhurst.

County Council will continue to review and consider dozens of similar community grant applications received county-wide and remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure every penny of ARPA community grants is spent to benefit county residents.
