Update on Cedar Point Road Bridge Project

Posted on

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works would like to provide the public with an update on the Cedar Point Road Bridge project.

After a pause in construction activity to evaluate the best path moving forward concerning the unplanned but necessary replacement of additional structural components, construction is scheduled to resume within the next month.

Construction began on the Cedar Point Road Bridge over the Rocky River in North Olmsted in the fall of 2021 and has remained closed for construction since that time.

During the systematic repair of the concrete bridge beams, it became clear that the interior beams displayed a larger and deeper extent of deterioration than originally anticipated. The project team, including the designer, contractor, the County and ODOT, worked together to complete a revised plan to complete the construction of the bridge to provide the maximum service life for the future structure while replicating the historic appearance. Due to the age and type of structure, it was determined that a total replacement of all the beams would be required.

The bridge will remain closed with a revised completion date in mid/late 2024, depending on material availability, weather and river conditions over the course of the next year.

We appreciate residents’ and motorists’ continued understanding and patience as we work to safely construct the Cedar Point Road Bridge.
