Annual Adopt-a-Palooza Event in Effect until July 16, 2023

CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter (CCAS) will offer $20 adoption fees until Sunday, July 16, 2023, for their 7th Annual Adopt-a-Palooza Adoptathon.

Adoption fees are normally $95, but to prepare for the number of dogs expected to come in after the 4th of July, they are waiving all fees, with the exception of $20 for the dog license. Adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccines, 2023 dog license, microchip, and a current rabies tag.

“Every year we see our largest intake of dogs around the 4th of July holiday,” said Animal Shelter Administrator Mindy Naticchioni. “With the already higher numbers of dogs in our shelter this year, we want to prepare for the dogs we know will be coming in after the holiday. We hope to find as many loving homes as possible for our current adoptable dogs.”

The shelter has been at or near capacity for the past few months. Naticchioni says they are in need of temporary foster homes to help create space for incoming animals.

Every year thousands of dogs flood local shelters across the country after the 4th of July holiday. Families are having cookouts and barbecues, and the fireworks scare the dogs and they run off. The shelter encourages residents to keep their pets inside on this holiday, and keep a close eye on them, as the loud booms can be stressful for pets.

Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Available pets can always be viewed at https://www.cuyahogadogs.com/.
