CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH - Cuyahoga County Council President Pernel Jones, Jr. issued the following statement:

“Today, the Cuyahoga County Monument Commission approved [unanimously] the proposed design for the new Siegel & Shuster Tribute Plaza, also known as the ‘Superman Statue’. This interactive monument will sit within a small park on the Huntington Convention Center property to be enjoyed by fans and visitors alike.

“My commitment to this project stems from a lifelong passion of comic book collecting and of watching and reading about Superman. Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1933 right here in Cleveland, I see no better way to honor the comic book character that transcends generations and its creators than with a beautiful structure and park in the city where the superhero was first imagined.

“That’s why I was honored to be able to spearhead the site selection for the project on behalf of the County to help make what was just a dream into reality. I want to thank The Siegel & Shuster Society for their leadership on this monument, the Convention Center facility leadership for their collaboration, the architects and designers of the statue, and the Monument Commission for their swift passage of the proposed design. Today, I’m excited to celebrate both with Clevelanders and the entire world ‘The Man of Steel.’”
