Statement by Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne on the Passing of Former President Jimmy Carter
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH – With the passing of the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, the nation mourns a man who embodied the true meaning of sacrifice and devotion to service. President Carter personified humility, honesty, and loyalty, and he served our great country through his government and military service with passion and kindness.
As a leader, President Jimmy Carter drove landmark civil rights legislation forward and championed human rights and racial justice in America. As a strong proponent of civil liberties, he led by example, breaking down barriers to voting rights and nominating jurists from underrepresented backgrounds to federal judgeships.
Following his career in the White House, Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife of 77 years, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, continued their humanitarian work through the Carter Foundation, striving to promote peace and fight disease worldwide. Throughout his life, President Carter remained a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, and worked alongside volunteers to provide affordable housing to those in need for decades.
As Cuyahoga County honors the legacy of President Jimmy Carter, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Carter Family, and to his loved ones, friends, and colleagues. May his memory inspire others to continue his work to create a more just, equitable, and kinder world.
