Dog owners in Ohio have until Saturday, January 31 to purchase their required 2026 dog license. The State of Ohio mandates that all dogs three months and older have a current dog license every year. After the deadline, a $20 penalty fee applies, effectively doubling the price of a one-year license. The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter encourages owners to renew now to avoid additional charges.

Dog licenses can be purchased as:

  • One (1) year tag for $20
  • Three (3) year tag for $60
  • Lifetime tag for $200

Cuyahoga County residents can buy their dog licenses at local Discount Drug Mart or Pet Supply Plus stores, at the County Animal Shelter, or online at cuyahogadogs.com.

All dog license fees directly support the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, which provides temporary care for lost and stray dogs until they’re reunited with their owners or find new homes.

Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is open to the public Tuesday - Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. View available dogs here.
