Olmsted Township Seeks Public Input for Greenway Trail – Phase I Project
OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, OH — Olmsted Township, in coordination with Cuyahoga County and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), invites the public to provide comments regarding the proposed Greenway Trail – Phase I Project.
The project includes the construction of a 10-foot-wide asphalt shared-use path within the existing FirstEnergy right-of-way, extending from Cook Road to Fitch Road. The trail will connect to existing sidewalks at both roadways and will include several ADA-compliant curb ramps, pedestrian signage, crosswalk striping, a pedestrian signal, and various drainage improvements.
The Greenway Trail will begin at the sidewalk on Fitch Road (near 7778 Fitch Road) and terminate at the sidewalk on Cook Road (near 27005 Cook Road). The total project length is approximately 4,500 feet.
This is a new trail alignment and is not located within the roadway.
The project may require temporary and permanent easements, including coordination with FirstEnergy (Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company) and potentially a limited easement near Cook Road depending on final design and environmental considerations. Construction activities are expected to be staged to minimize impacts, and flaggers may be used as needed. Sidewalk connections at Cook and Fitch Roads will be closed for a duration of the project.
Environmental studies are currently underway. The project may involve tree clearing, wetland impacts, and work within an existing utility easement. Any tree clearing will comply with bat protection restrictions and will occur between October 1 and March 31. Wetland mitigation will be provided as required. No park or recreational property impacts under Section 4(f) are anticipated.
Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2027, subject to final design, environmental clearance, and funding authorization.
Public comments may include, but are not limited to, the project’s potential effects on nearby residents, environmental resources, accessibility, safety, and overall community connectivity.
Questions and written comments must be submitted in writing no later than March 15, 2026.
Submissions may be directed to:
