County Offers Support, Safety Guidance Following Severe Storms

Posted on

Residents should use caution as hazardous conditions remain.

Cuyahoga County, OH - In the aftermath of recent severe storms, Cuyahoga County is urging residents to use caution as hazardous conditions remain, including power outages, flooded roadways, and traffic signal disruptions. Emergency crews are actively assessing damage from high winds and heavy rain.

“The Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor power outages and cleanup efforts across our region,” said Emergency Manager Mark Christie. “As crews work to restore services, we encourage residents to stay safe, check on neighbors, and follow safety guidelines set by municipalities.”

KEY SAFETY REMINDERS:

  • Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Never drive through flooded roadways. Water depth can be deceptive and dangerous, and vehicles can be quickly swept away by moving water.
  • Traffic Signal Outages: Treat intersections as 4-way stops. If signals are out, stop and proceed with caution.
  • Stay Away from Downed Power Lines: Assume all downed wires are live and report them immediately. Call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).
  • Report Hazards: Report any critical unmet needs resulting from the storms to local authorities.

HELPFUL RESOURCES:

Damaged or Destroyed Property
Residents whose property sustained storm damage may be eligible for a reduction in property value. To apply, complete and submit an Application for Valuation of Damaged or Destroyed Property. Applicants can mail the form to the Cuyahoga County Fiscal Office at 2079 East 9th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, 44115.

SNAP Benefit Replacement
Residents who receive SNAP food assistance benefits and experience an extended power outage may qualify for replacement benefits. Customers must complete the ODJFS Form 07222: Statement Requesting Replacement of SNAP Benefits to request replacement benefits. Replacement amounts are based on reported food loss, up to a maximum of one month's allotment.

Customers can submit the completed form to Cuyahoga Job and Family Services:

Anyone seeking shelter or food assistance should contact United Way 2-1-1.

Cuyahoga County urges residents to stay informed by signing up for emergency notifications and alerts through the County’s emergency notification system, Ready Notify.
