CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH - With gas prices fluctuating, the Cuyahoga County Department of Consumer Affairs is advising gas stations to ensure they display accurate price information on street signs and at pumps.
By law, prices advertised on street signs must match the price on the pump. If a sign cannot display both the cash price and credit price, street signs must display the higher of the two.
Drivers are encouraged to report price discrepancies to the Division of Weights and Measures at 216-443-7035 or cuyahogacounty.gov/consumeraffairs. The Weights and Measures seal on the pump also displays this information.
Gas purchasing tips for consumers:
- Make sure the price advertised on signs is reflected at the pump.
- Always get a receipt when you buy gas. Complaints can be harder to resolve without purchase details from the gas station receipt.
- Doublecheck the gas grade you selected before you start pumping.
- If you discover a price error after you gas up, ask the manager for a refund and contact the County’s Weights and Measures office.
Cuyahoga County Weights and Measures has jurisdiction over gas stations in suburban Cuyahoga County. To report an issue at a Cleveland gas station, contact the Cleveland Bureau of Weights and Measures at 216-664-3388.
