McCracken Road Bridge Rehabilitation
Department of Public Works Seeks Public Input for the Rehabilitation of the McCracken Road Bridge 01.36 Over Mill Creek
Cuyahoga County, OH – The Cuyahoga County Department of Public Works, in cooperation with the City of Garfield Heights, the City of Maple Heights, and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is seeking public comments on the proposed rehabilitation of McCracken Road Bridge (Bridge No. 01.36) over Mill Creek.
The proposed project will rehabilitate the existing McCracken Road Bridge over Mill Creek, which is located on the municipal boundary between the Cities of Garfield Heights and Maple Heights. In addition to the bridge rehabilitation, the project includes localized resurfacing and pavement replacement on the adjacent roadway, as needed. Existing signs and pavement markings within the project limits will also be replaced.
To safely complete the work, McCracken Road will be closed at the bridge during construction. Traffic will be detoured via Henry Street and Broadway Avenue. Access to homes, businesses, and other properties along McCracken Road and adjacent side streets will be maintained throughout construction.
The project is expected to require the temporary relocation of overhead utility lines located on the north and south sides of the bridge. Impacts to underground utilities are anticipated to be minimal and are expected to consist primarily of adjustments to existing manhole castings.
Temporary right-of-way easements will be required to accommodate utility relocations and provide construction access. No permanent right-of-way acquisition is anticipated.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin in Spring 2028 and is expected to take approximately 11 months to complete.
The public is encouraged to review the proposed project and submit comments. Comments may address any aspect of the project, including potential effects on nearby residents and businesses, traffic, air quality, the local economy, floodplains, natural resources, and historic or cultural resources.
Written comments must be received by August 20, 2026.
