  • Jefferson Bridge has been closed to traffic on May 6th 2026.
  • The temporary detour is open and accessible from W. 3rd to Scotham Avenue which runs across the current train tracks towards the temporary ramp that allows access to the eastern edge of the bridge.
  • Design build team and Cuyahoga County received the no-objection letter from the railroad for the utility bridge.
  • Contractor construction activities anticipating starting in late summer 2026.

 

July 7, 2026

  • Jefferson Bridge has been closed to traffic on May 6th 2026.

  • Final plans have been completed and are awaiting approval documentation from project entities outside of Cuyahoga County.
  • Additional meetings are to be scheduled to determine an efficient construction procedure for the project to determine what/if additional miscellaneous demolition and construction tasks can be completed prior to receiving the remaining project approval documentation.
  • Barring no additional delays from the above information, contractor activities are anticipated to return in early Spring 2026.

  • The existing Jefferson Avenue bridge is still open to traffic.
  • Traffic switch (closing Jefferson Bridge and opening temporary detour ramp/route) is expected to occur within one month's time.

 

November 6, 2025

  • Final Plan Reviews with the Design Build Team and Permit Requirement Execution/coordination with Norfolk Southern Railroad (and other involved entities) are nearing completion.
  • The temporary asphalt work to adjust the grade for the railroad crossing for the temporary road detour has been completed.
  • Contractor work expected to start again this Fall as railroad permits/agreements/final plans are executed.
  • Currently no active contractor work on site.
  • Jefferson Bridge is open to two-way traffic.
  • Temporary ramp access connecting Scotham Avenue to Jefferson Avenue has been closed but will be open after the contractor installs maintenance of traffic safety additions for the railroad crossing (additional signage, crosswalks, bubble mirrors to increase visibility). Subsequently, Jefferson Bridge will be closed to start the proposed demolition work.

Then, Jefferson Bridge will be closed to start proposed demolition work.
