August 4, 2026
- North Marginal Road is currently open to two-way traffic from E. 9th Street to E. 55th Street.
- Contractor has been on site removing the existing trail and grading for the proposed trail on the western end of the project near the main Burke Airport Building (concrete work for western driveways and curb rams are ongoing).
- A portion of the Burke Airport parking lot has been closed while the contractor finalizes the parking lot pavement to accommodate the new trail location.
- Electrical subcontractors on site working on the west and east ends of the project installing light poles for the future trail/street lighting.
- Asphalt work for the new trail to be completed this month.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion is anticipated by late August 2026.
July 7, 2026
- As of July 6th, the westbound lane and pedestrian walkway along North Marginal Road between E. 9th Street and the easternmost entrance Rosenbaum Plaza will be closed.
- A one-way eastbound lane will be maintained between E. 9th Street and the easternmost entrance of Rosenbaum Plaza as well as a temporary pedestrian detour.
- The current complete two-lane road closure between Burke Lake Airport Gate 7 and Gate 11 will be concluding to allow two-way traffic between the easternmost entrance of Rosenbaum Plaza on E. 55th Street.
- Contractor has been on site removing the existing trail and grading for the proposed trail on the western end of the project near the main Burke Airport Building.
- A portion of the Burke Airport lot has been closed while the contractor prepares to repair/replace the parking lot pavement to accommodate the new trail location.
- Electrical subcontractors on site working on the west and east ends of the project installing light pole foundations and underground conduit for the future trail/street lighting.
- Asphalt work for the new trail and the new parking lot are ongoing this month.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion is anticipated by late August 2026.
June 8, 2026
- General contractor activities returned to a full-time work schedule on March 9th, 2026.
- On Monday, March 9th, 2026, “Road Closed” signs were installed on the east and westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from just east of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 7 to west of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 11 for a complete two-lane closure to re-align the road and bike trail in this area.
- All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary. This traffic control operation will be active till July 2026.
- Contractor has been on site working in this "Road Closed" area described above, placing concrete base for the new roadway alignment.
- Asphalt paving work is to be completed in June for this area (for roadway and trail; with western project paving operations to process throughout summer 2026).
- Electrical subcontractors on site working on the west and east ends of the project installing light pole foundations and underground conduit for the future trail/street lighting.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion is anticipated by late summer 2026.
May 5, 2026
- General contractor activities returned to a full-time work schedule on March 9th, 2026.
- On Monday, March 9th, 2026, “Road Closed” signs were installed on the east and westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from just east of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 7 to west of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 11 for a complete two-lane closure to re-align the road and bike trail in this area. All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary. This traffic control operation will be active till July 2026.
- Contractor has been on site working in this "Road Closed" area described above, removing existing roadway pavement, installing new underground storm drainage, and fire hydrants.
- Elevation adjustments and additional site grading work continues in the "Road Closed" area for the new alignments of the road and trail. Grading work North of the road (for the proposed path) is also ongoing moving West towards E9th St from this area.
- Electrical subcontractors on site working on the West and East ends of the project installing light pole foundations and underground conduit for the future trail/street lighting.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion anticipated by late Summer 2026.
April 6, 2026
- Verizon utility relocation work near the west side of North Marginal Road was completed in mid-March 2026.
- CPP utility relocation work near the east end of the Burke Lakefront Airport was completed in mid-March 2026.
- General contractor activities returned to a full-time work schedule on March 9, 2026.
- On Monday, March 9th, (Road Closure) signs were installed on the east and westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from just east of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 7 to west of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 11 for a complete two-lane closure to re-align the road and bike trail in this area.
- All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary. This traffic control operation will be active until July 2026.
- Contractor has been on site working in this Road Closed area described above, removing existing roadway pavement and installing underground storm structures and pipe/conduit for the new drainage runs in this area.
- Electrical subcontractors on site working on the Western half of Burke Airport (north side of N. Marginal) installing light pole foundations and underground conduit for the future trail/street lighting.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion is anticipated by late Summer 2026.
March 5, 2026
- Verizon utility relocation work near the west side of N. Marginal Road has been ongoing and is anticipated to be completed by mid-March 2026.
- CPP utility relocation work near the east end of the Burke Lakefront Airport has been ongoing and is anticipated to be completed by mid-March 2026.
- General contractor activities to return to a full-time work schedule beginning March 9, 2026.
- Beginning on Monday, March 9th, (Road Closure) signs will be installed on east and westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from just east of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 7 to west of Burke Lakefront Airport Gate 11 for a complete two-lane closure to re-align the road and bike trail in this area.
- All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary. This traffic control operation will be active until July 2026.
- Additional crews are to work at various locations throughout North Marginal; including a crew north of the road near North Marginal/E. 55th intersection to perform grading and fill work in this area for the proposed trail.
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work on/off the road continues for the trail periodically through the remainder of the project.
- Project completion is anticipated by late Summer 2026.
February 5, 2026
- Roadway is open to two-way traffic.
- Significant contractor activities have currently paused for the month of January and early February due to weather and to provide time for the remaining third-party utility relocations to be completed.
- CPP is anticipating to complete relocation work at the east end of Burke Airport by early February 2026.
- Verizon/Mas Tech is anticipating to complete relocation work at the west end of Burke Airport by early February 2026.
- Most of the eastern half of the trail has been paved (Note-TRAIL CLOSED SIGNS are up at various locations since the trail is not complete).
- Traffic control devices such as barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work off the road continues for the trail periodically through February and more frequently once significant contractor activity returns in March 2026.
- Contractor is anticipating shutting down the curved portion of N. Marginal Road (near the central fence line of the Burke Airport property where the S. Marginal Route 2 on ramp is located) March 2026 to be re-opened at the end of May 2026.
- NOTE-traffic will be open two-way on the east and west sided of the closure.
- Project completion is anticipated by late Summer 2026.
January 6, 2026
- Roadway is open to two-way traffic.
- Significant contractor activities have currently paused for the month of January due to weather and to provide time for the remaining third-party utility relocations to be completed.

- Paving/restoration work for the Shoreline Apartments parking lot has been completed.

- Roadway pavement work has been completed from east end of the Burke Airport property to East 55th Street.
- Temporary roadway striping work in this area above has been completed.
- N. Marginal Road has been restored to two-way traffic as of 8.15.25
- Contractor will proceed with trial work on the north side of the road.
- Traffic control devices such barrels, cones, signs and flaggers are to remain active as work off the road continues for the trail.
August 5, 205
- Roadway concrete/pavement work is ongoing.
- This work consists of existing pavement/concrete removal and replacement for the North Marginal roadway.
- Beginning on June 6th, traffic control devices were installed on the westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from East 55th Street to the Benjamin O. Davis Aviation High School for work to begin on the north side of the road.
- North Marginal will be limited to a one-way eastbound traffic section only.
- All westbound traffic entering from East 55th will be prohibited.
- Two detours are presented.
- Option 1 - merge onto SR-2 west and take the off ramp to East 9th Street.
- Option 2 - direct traffic to westbound south Marginal Road to East 9th Street.
- All local businesses and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed as necessary.
- This traffic control operation will have two-way traffic restored by the end of August (prior to Labor Day weekend).
July 8, 2025
- Underground storm work is ongoing as the contractor continued replacing existing manholes/catch basins and tying in the sewer run on the eastern half on the project towards E. 55th Street.
- The contractor began excavating/grading to the subgrade for the proposed towpath in front of Lakeside Yacht Club.
- The contractor and the County have been coordinating with CPP to de-energize the existing steel light poles that are called for removal and the eastern half of the project.
- Beginning on 6/6/25, traffic control devices were installed on the westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from E. 55th Street to the Benjamin O. Davis Aviation High School for work to begin on the north side of the road.
- North Marginal Road will be limited to a one-way eastbound traffic section only.
- All westbound traffic entering from E. 55th Street will be prohibited.
- Two detours are presented with traffic with the first option of merging onto SR-2 west and taking the off ramp to E. 9th Street.
- The second option will direct traffic to the westbound south Marginal Road to E. 9th Street.
- All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary.
- This control operation be active until October 2025.
June 6, 2025
- Contractor fire hydrate/water work is ongoing along North Marginal Road.
- Continued underground storm work and utility/street pole removal/relocation is also ongoing.
- Starting on Friday, June 6, 2025, traffic control devices will be installed on the westbound lanes of North Marginal Road from East 55th to the Benjamin O. Davis Aviation High School for work to begin on the north side of the road.
- North Marginal will be limited to a one-way eastbound traffic section only. All westbound traffic entering from East 55th will be prohibited.
- Two detours are presented with traffic with the first option of merging onto SR-2 West and taking the off ramp to East 9th Street. The second option will direct traffic to westbound South Marginal Rd to East 9th Street.
- All local business and entities on North Marginal Road will continue to have driveway access during operations, and temporary driveways will be installed, as necessary.
- This traffic control operation will be active till Autumn 2025.
May 7, 2025
- Contractor hydrate/water work is ongoing along the Burke Airport property (north side of the road) and the east end of the project closer to E. 55th Street along the I-90 west (south side of the road).
- A construction zone with temporary traffic light control (that allows for one lane but two-way traffic) has been placed near the east end of the project site to accommodate underground storm work.
- Two-way traffic is still open as the contractor prepares to change to the one-way eastbound traffic near the end of Spring 2025.
April 2, 2025
- Pre-Phase utility relocation is nearing completion.
- CPP has their final phase to complete.
- Charter/Spectrum is currently performing their relocation work.
- Underground storm work has begun with material deliveries, various pavement removal locations, and setting of water quality structures.
- The construction zone with temporary traffic light control (allows for one lane but two-way traffic) has been place near the east end of the project.
December 3, 2024
- Independence Excavating coordinated/performed initial; pre-phase construction work to allow utility companies (CEI and CPP) to have enough room to perform their relocation work for utility poles/lines.
- Initial tree removal and clearing and grubbing occurred at various locations during the length of the project.
- Sections of pavement were cut and removed near the existing curb lines to accommodate new pole locations (minimal pavement removed so two-way traffic is still maintained).
- Pre-phase work shown above was complete in mid-November.
- Independence Excavating will be off-site till February 2025 to allow utility companies to have the winter to start/finish their utility pole/lines relocation work.
- Remaining stump removal for the tree clearing work will continue once the contractor returns to the project site upon the completion of utility relocation work.
October 21, 2024
- No official construction work has begun for this project.
- Pre-construction video was recorded for the project earlier this month.
- The contractor is currently waiting for electrical utility coordination (CPP & CEI) before finalizing the construction schedule.
