Demolition began on the Cedar Point Bridge over the Rocky River in North Olmsted
In the fall of 2021 and has remained closed for the construction activities since that time. In June of 2022, there was a pause in construction activity to evaluate the best path moving forward concerning the necessary replacement of the interior beams of the subject structure.
During the systematic repair of all the concrete bridge beams, it became clear that the interior beams displayed a larger and deeper extent of deterioration that originally anticipated. The project team, including the designer, contractor, the Country and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), worked together to develop a plan to complete the construction of the bridge in a cost-effective manner that would provide a maximum service life for the future structure. It was decided to construct new arched beams that matched the existing ones.
This required an extensive re-design of the plans. It also resulted in much more complicated and time consuming construction, which now includes the replacement of all the beams rather than patching the existing ones. The plans have been completed and active construction will begin shortly (weather permitting). The County is working with the contactor to expedite the construction schedule where possible,
but at this time the bridge is not scheduled to reopen until 2024.
