• Demolition of beams, pier caps, abutment walls and wing walls are complete.
• Crews are currently in progress working in the installation of beams and platforms for the building of structure beams formwork, and pier and abutment re-construction work.
• Best management practices (BMP) are in place for erosion control, debris is being cleaned and removed from the river daily and an erosion control boom is set down stream daily.
• The bridge is closed to traffic and a detour route is in place.

August 23, 2023

• Demolition work on the bridge continues.
• All the beams have been removed.
• Demolition work is underway on the abutment walls and the piers.
• Work continues from both land and water, with pollution controls in place to control river contamination.

August 4, 2023

• The project has resumed operations.
• Clean up and restoration work on the causeway has been performed.
• Demolition is underway with the existing beams being removed and the existing abutments and piers being knocked down to demolition elevations.
• The best management practices for erosion control are in place and functioning.
• Work does continue from within the river with debris clean-up performed at the end of each workday.
• The detour route is posted and in place.

• The project has resumed operations, after a long period of shutdown and redesign.
• Remobilized equipment and working on clean-up of river debris and reestablishing work platforms and access causeways.

Demolition began on the Cedar Point Bridge over the Rocky River in North Olmsted In the fall of 2021 and has remained closed for the construction activities since that time. In June of 2022, there was a pause in construction activity to evaluate the best path moving forward concerning the necessary replacement of the interior beams of the subject structure.

During the systematic repair of all the concrete bridge beams, it became clear that the interior beams displayed a larger and deeper extent of deterioration that originally anticipated. The project team, including the designer, contractor, the Country and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), worked together to develop a plan to complete the construction of the bridge in a cost-effective manner that would provide a maximum service life for the future structure. It was decided to construct new arched beams that matched the existing ones.

This required an extensive re-design of the plans. It also resulted in much more complicated and time consuming construction, which now includes the replacement of all the beams rather than patching the existing ones. The plans have been completed and active construction will begin shortly (weather permitting). The County is working with the contactor to expedite the construction schedule where possible, but at this time the bridge is not scheduled to reopen until 2024.
