On June 20, 2023, Cuyahoga County Council heard three pieces of legislation for the first time. Ordinances O2023-0012 and O2023-0013 were introduced for the purpose of extending the .25% sales tax until the year 2067. Resolution R2023-0182 was introduced to authorize the acquisition of 72.1 acres of land in Garfield Heights for a cost not to exceed $38,703,000.
On August 1, 2023, County Council heard all relevant pieces of legislation (R2023-0182, O2023-0012 and O2023-0013) for the second time.
On August 19, 2023, the City of Garfield Heights hosted a community meeting featuring Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne and members of the county administration. Citizens were invited to ask questions and make comments regarding the proposed site for a new Cuyahoga County Central Services Campus.
On September 26, 2023, Cuyahoga County Council heard the third reading of Ordinances O2023-0012 and O2023-0013 as well as Resolution R2023-0182. The ordinances to approve the extension of the .25% sales tax were recommitted to the Committee of the Whole. The resolution, approving the purchase of 72.1 acres in Garfield Heights for the purpose of building the Cuyahoga County Central Services Campus, passed.
On December 14, 2023, Cuyahoga County Council voted to approve a 40 year, .25% sales tax extension. This is a continuation of an existing sales tax. The revenue generated from the tax will be used to build the Central Services Campus and may be used to fund other projects, such as a new Justice Center, as necessary.
