Other Solar Energy Projects

Cuyahoga Green Energy has operated a landfill solar farm in Brooklyn since 2018.

Cuyahoga County has installed solar on four county properties. These arrays help service the County's energy needs and offset usage and demand.

Brooklyn Landfill Solar Project

Since 2018, Cuyahoga County and Cuyahoga Green Energy (CGE) have operated a solar farm on a former landfill and brownfield site in Brooklyn. The 4-megawatt array contains 35,520 panels, covers 17 acres of landfill, and generates enough electricity to power roughly 650 homes. The site offsets 3,400 tons of CO2 emissions per year and will save roughly $3 million over 25 years in energy bills.

Brooklyn's solar farm currently occupies half of the landfill site. CGE is targeting a future expansion that would double the existing energy output.

County Building Solar

Cuyahoga County is utilizing existing rooftop space to generate clean, local renewable energy with solar installed on these buildings:

  • The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter
    • 122 panels, accounting for 13% of energy demand
  • The Jane Edna Hunter Social Services building
    • 1,222 panels, accounting for 25% of energy demand
  • Cuyahoga County's facility and garage at Harvard Avenue
    • 1,945 panels, accounting for 25-30% of energy demand
  • Office of the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner
    • 488 panels, accounting for 3% of energy demand
