  • Both new bridge structures opened to outer curb lane traffic on 10/29, after paving was completed.

  • Flagmen for protection of RTA interests will be on site during temporary structure removal.

Maintenance of Traffic

  • All Warrensville Road Traffic is now using both bridges in outer curb lanes, NB traffic on NB bridge , SB traffic on SB bridge. This will be in effect until center median area work is complete, bullnose islands, crossovers.
  • Traffic on Warrensville Road within the work zone is PROHIBITED from making left turns onto Shaker Blvd. east and west.
  • Shaker Heights Police is on site as needed to monitor work zone, enforce safety.
  • Posted detour is in place to reroute traffic onto Shaker Blvd. east and west from Warrensville Road.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists need to pay attention to crosswalk closures on each side of bridges. All crosswalks to be opened to regular use in the coming weeks.
  • Regular traffic pattern to be in effect in coming weeks, once median work is completed throughout the project. 

September 3, 2024

  • Temporary protective structure over RTA under new NB bridge removed.
  • Demo of all existing SB structures completed.
  • Placement of substructure for proposed SB bridge complete.

  • Phase II southbound bridge closed, existing box beams from both spans removed.

  • Demo work on rear/forward abutments of southbound bridge structure.
  • Demo work on wingwalls of southbound bridge structure.
  • Placement of concrete for new portions of abutments.
  • Removal of temporary falsework/protective structure under new northbound bridge.
  • RTA closing rail lines under project per one month shutdown beginning July 7th.
  • Contractor scheduled to have two crews on site to expedite work during this time.

  • New drive for Shaker Fire Department complete, now open to emergency vehicles.
  • Placement of new 9” concrete base in front of fire drive, 38+50 TO 38+95 right, now complete.
  • The sidewalk install north of the fire drive is complete.
  • Phase I girder/bearing placement now complete for new NB bridge structure.

  • Guardrails, vandal fence removed from eastbound bridge in preparation for demolition.
  • Removal of sidewalks, curbs, traffic islands and pavement are in progress.
  • Construction of temporary shoring structure under bridges over RTA tracks started on 8/21.

  • Excavation behind abutments prior to bridge demolition.

  • Building temporary crossovers to reroute all Warrensville Center Road traffic to the southbound bridge.
  • August 8th  Phase I closing the northbound bridge to all traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the southbound bridge.
  • Phase I will be in place until late spring 2024.
  • Please be advised left turns will be prohibited for southbound Warrensville traffic at Shaker Blvd., eastbound, and for northbound Warrensville traffic at Shaker Blvd., westbound.
