March 20, 2024

  • New drive for Shaker Fire Department complete, now open to emergency vehicles.
  • Placement of new 9” concrete base in front of fire drive, 38+50 TO 38+95 right, now complete.
  • The sidewalk install north of the fire drive is complete.
  • Phase I girder/bearing placement now complete for new NB bridge structure.

Upcoming

  • Shaping, grading new slope profile at southeast/northeast wingwalls.
  • Construction, forming of superstructure (deck) for new NB bridge.
  • Concrete placement for new deck on NB Bridge.
  • Remove existing pavement, commercial drive south of NB Bridge from 34+88 to 36+75 right.
  • Construction of approach slabs for NB Bridge.
  • Placement of soils as embankment per new bridge elevations in area of Shaker Fire Department.
  • Topsoil, seeding of areas adjacent to new fire drive, new walk north of fire drive.

  • Traffic on Warrensville Road within the work zone is PROHIBITED from making left turns onto Shaker Blvd. east/west.
  • Posted detour is in place to reroute traffic having to get to Shaker Blvd. from Warrensville Road within the work zone.
  • Pedestrians and bicyclists are PROHIBITED from entering work zones north and south of closed bridge. Follow posted signs at open crosswalks.
  • West sidewalk on west bridge is open.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO TRESSPASSERS ONTO CLOSED BRIDGE SITE. TRESPASSERS WILL BE TICKETED BY THE SHAKER POLICE.

  • Basins, manhole, and conduits installed as new drainage system for fire station drive.
  • Remove south half of the fire drive, existing concrete roadway.
  • Placed a new 9” concrete base in front of the fire drive.
  • Completed additional work to correct drainage failures found in existing conduits at the fire station drive.

  • Shaping, grading new slope profile at southeast/northeast wingwalls.
  • Remove the remainder of existing pavement from fire drive to north limit.
  • Construction, placement of new 8” reinforced pavement for drive at Shaker Fire Department.

  • Phase I construction of all new east bridge structures are completed the rear/forward sides, with exception of parapet walls. · Phase I waterproofing of abutments, center retaining walls, wing walls complete. · Phase I abutment excavation, placement of cellular concrete fill complete. · Fabrication of curb plates for both bridge structures is complete.

Upcoming

  • Shaping, grading new slope profile off southeast wingwall.
  • Placement of conduits, basins and manhole for proposed drainage work at fire station.
  • Removal of existing pavement, construction of new pavement for fire station drive apron.
  • Fabrication of bridge girders for both bridge structures.

Notes

  • Project schedule has been changed to move up completion date. This will result in work being performed through winter.
  • Anticipated completion for east structure is late spring, early summer of 2024.
  • Once traffic is switched over to east bridge, west bridge will be closed and demolished.
  • Major items of work are anticipated to be completed, with both bridges open to traffic by late 2024.
  • The progress of work on site during winter months is weather dependent.
  • Project is currently on schedule to have both bridge structures complete by end of 2024.

  • Excavating behind abutments, retaining walls, including waterproofing of same.

October 10, 2023

  • Existing box beams, both spans of east bridge removed.
  • Demolition of rear/forward abutments, center retaining wall portions complete.
  • Rear abutment re-construction, including concrete placement complete.

  • Reconstruction of center retaining walls, SE/NE wing walls, including concrete placement.
  • Reconstruction of forward abutment portions.
  • Demo of existing pier cap, east bridge structure.
  • Excavation, waterproofing, and backfill of abutments with engineered fill.

  • Anticipated completion for east structure is late spring, early summer of 2024.

Phase I

  • Asphalt and crossovers have been completed.
  • Traffic has been switched to one lane in each direction onto westbound bridge structure on 8/8 eastbound bridge is closed.
  • Guardrails, vandal fence removed from eastbound bridge in preparation for demolition.
  • Removal of sidewalks, curbs, traffic islands and pavement are in progress.
  • Construction of temporary shoring structure under bridges over RTA tracks started on 8/21.
Upcoming
  • Completion of temporary shoring structure under both bridges.
  • Excavation behind abutments prior to bridge demolition.
  • Demolition of existing eastbound bridge.
Notes
  • Project schedule has been changed to move the completion date. This will result in work being performed thought the winter.
  • Anticipated completion for eastbound structure is late spring, early summer of 2024.
  • Once traffic is switched over to the eastbound bridge, the westbound bridge will be closed and demolished.

Phase I

  • Building temporary crossovers to reroute all Warrensville Center Road traffic to the southbound bridge.
  • August 8th  Phase I closing the northbound bridge to all traffic. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the southbound bridge.
  • Phase I will be in place until late spring 2024.
  • Please be advised left turns will be prohibited for southbound Warrensville traffic at Shaker Blvd., eastbound, and for northbound Warrensville traffic at Shaker Blvd., westbound.
