Cuyahoga County Scam Squad Warns of Corrections Center Phone Scams
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH - The Cuyahoga County Scam Squad and Sheriff’s Department are warning residents about a new scam in which criminals pose as deputies and contact the families of newly booked individuals. The scammers ask family members to pay for ankle monitors so their loved ones can be released from custody.
Residents are advised that deputies will NEVER call citizens to ask for payments of any kind.
In addition, jury duty related scams continue to be reported. In these scams, imposters posing as deputies may email fake summons to scare people into paying a “bond” or other fee.
Keep yourself and others safe from scams:
- Do not pass on unverified messages from people who claim to be deputies or other members of law enforcement.
- Remember that members of law enforcement will NEVER call people to ask for money, fees, or fines.
