• Payment app linked to a credit card: Contact your card issuer's fraud department.


• Bank wire transfer: Contact your bank and ask them to reverse the wire.

If you lost a large amount and cannot reach someone at your bank, file a complaint with the FBI’s IC3.gov site. (You will need to provide detailed payment information to do this.)

1. If you bought the cards in person at a single store, contact the store where the cards were purchased and ask them to freeze the cards. (Some retailers are more helpful than others.) You will need the card numbers/images and receipts to freeze unspent cards.

   Contact the company whose brand is on the cards. Find fraud contact info on the card packaging or use the Federal Trade Commission’s list of links for gift card issuers.

1. If the password or verification code was from a bank or a payment app, contact your bank or credit card's fraud department immediately to report that your account might be compromised.


2. Change your passwords right away, if you can. Don't forget to change passwords on linked accounts or other accounts you used to create the impacted account (for example, social media or email). If the scammer has blocked you from an account, report the fraud to the platform.
