Home Energy Assistance Program
The extreme winter temperatures can lead to high utility bills that many families have difficulty paying. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) assists eligible low-income residents with their winter home heating costs using natural gas, electric, oil, kerosene, or wood.
Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility is based partially on income guidelines.
If eligible, the benefit amount will depend on:
- Funding levels
- Number of people in your household
- Total household income
- Main fuel type used
Winter Crisis Program
The Winter Crisis Program is a special component of the Home Energy Assistance Program that begins on November 1st and operates through the end of March. It provides payment assistance to eligible households that are disconnected from their energy source, have a pending disconnection notice, or have less than a 10-day supply of bulk fuel. This is a one-time benefit to be used in emergency situations.
