Alan Arancibia, Department of Development

Having lived in Cuyahoga County his entire life, Alan has committed himself to public work within the region. After graduating from Miami University in December of 2017 with his bachelor’s in Spanish and Political Science, he worked for both the City of Beachwood and the City of Westlake. He is currently beginning the second year of his master’s program in Urban Planning and Development at the Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs where he’ll also be receiving certificates in Real Estate and Economic Development. While working for the County, he looks forward to conducting impactful research that will promote reinvestment and development within the region that he’s proud to call his home.

Amaya Razmi, Agency of Inspector General

Amaya Razmi, a lifelong Cleveland resident and recent graduate of Hathaway Brown, is currently a rising sophomore at Harvard University interested in the intersection between healthcare and public policy. As an avid debater, Amaya has spent time debating around the world both in high school and in college. Amaya is also passionate about drug delivery research, having spent four years at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University and presenting her research around the country. She is currently pursuing additional drug delivery research at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. In her free time, Amaya is a book-worm who loves spending time with family and practicing the martial arts as a black belt. This summer, Amaya is looking forward to making a positive contribution at the Agency of the Inspector General and learning more about public service.

Analese Chandler-Nieves, Division of Senior and Adult Services

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Analese Chandler-Nieves is a recent graduate of Baldwin Wallace University. She graduated with a major in Sociology and minors in Psychology and Criminal Justice. Throughout her coursework and extracurricular activities, Analese became very interested in identifying and creating social change in Urban areas. She interned with the Inter-religious Task Force and worked as a Dance Instructor for the Cleveland Inner City Ballet. She also was involved in student organizations as the President of Hispanic Alliance Student Association, the Vice President of Black Arts Network and the Treasurer of Urban Dance Association. During her junior year of college, Analese had the opportunity to travel to China where she studied abroad and immersed herself in Chinese culture through visiting historically significant sites and Chinese businesses. Additionally, she interned at Asian Services in Action where she assisted in writing a grant that funded art therapy classes for a refugee support group. She is very excited to gain diversified experience in the public sector through the Cuyahoga County Public Policy Fellowship Program where she will be working in the Division of Senior and Adult Services.

Anna Rubertino, Division of Children and Family Services

Anna Rubertino, born and raised in Eastlake, Ohio, is a graduate of Cleveland State University where she received her Bachelor of Social Work Degree in 2018. Following graduation, she was accepted into Cleveland State’s Master of Social Work program, and is entering into her final year, expecting to graduate in May of 2020. Throughout her academic career, Anna has developed an interest in public policy and is passionate in exploring how local and national laws directly affect client populations. She is also interested in understanding the ways in which micro, mezzo, and macro social work are intertwined. In her first year MSW field placement, Anna worked for Cleveland Housing Court’s Social Service Referral Program, where she aided in bridging the gap between vulnerable, underserved residents of Cleveland and the established “safety net” of social service agencies in the city. Entering this experience as a Cuyahoga County Public Policy Fellow, Anna hopes to gain a greater understanding of child welfare and the policies that impact child welfare clients, workers and administrators, while also broadening her understanding on how social workers can critically impact communities through both policy and practice.

Cameron Caputi, Department of Regional Collaboration

Originally from Buffalo, NY, Cameron is a recent graduate of Cleveland State University’s Levin College of Urban Affairs and will be pursuing his Master of science in Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University in the fall. Cameron has worked for the Cleveland City Council and the City of University Heights’ Mayor’s Office and has recently completed his term as a Campbell-Steinbacher Research Fellow at Cleveland State, where he explored the relationship between population growth and immigration in post-industrial cities. Cameron is looking forward to promoting a collaborative spirit in Cuyahoga County during his tenure as a Public Policy Fellow in the Department of Regional Collaboration.

Dalton Hennes, Department of Public Safety and Justice Services

Dalton Hennes is a recent graduate from Case Western Reserve University where he obtained his Master of Arts in Military Ethics and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. As a summer fellow in the Department of Public Safety and Justice Services, Dalton is researching best practices for administration of a Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) grant that seeks to decrease the disproportionate representation of minority youth engaged in the juvenile justice system. While originally from the southern Ohio counties of Greene and Fayette, Dalton has fallen in love with Cuyahoga County since he first moved to Cleveland for his undergraduate degree. While in Cleveland, he has interned for ABC News at the RNC, interned in Senator Sherrod Brown's Cleveland office, and conducted cross-discipline research looking at neural correlates of dehumanization in the military. Dalton would love to find a grant management or otherwise public service job in the Cleveland area for the upcoming year.

Laura Colagiovanni, Office of Reentry

Originally from Bay Village, Laura Colagiovanni is a student in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University pursuing a degree in Public Policy Analysis and Economics with a specialization in Urban Policy & Management. While at Ohio State, Laura serves as a mentor at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center through Buckeye REACH, a student organization which aims to develop relationships with young people who are incarcerated by providing programming covering topics such as social movements, community organizing and wellness. This experience, along with her academic studies, helped foster her passion for criminal justice reform and promoting the active use of empathy across lived experiences.

This summer, she will be working in the Office of Reentry, which aims to remove the stigma and social burdens that challenge citizens returning from prison by funding and supporting organizations that provide comprehensive reintegration services.

Madeline Baker, Department of Communications

Madeline Baker, originally from Lakewood, Ohio, is a recent graduate of Ohio University. There she majored in Communication Studies: Public Advocacy, minored in Marketing and received a certificate in Global Leadership. She developed an interest for local government and public policy from her experiences at Ohio University and being raised in Lakewood. While at Ohio University she became involved in student government and had the opportunity to study abroad in Leipzig, Germany where she presented policy recommendations to a policy analyst from the U.S. German Consulate. Madeline is excited for the summer ahead with Cuyahoga County in the Department of Communications and hopes to better understand the government’s impact and relationship with residents through the use of media and communication. In her free time, Madeline loves to explore all the exciting things that Cleveland and the surrounding communities have to offer, especially in the summer.

Riley Alton, Division of Job and Family Services

A lifelong resident of Olmsted Township, Riley Alton studied Political Science and History at the Ohio State University. As a Buckeye, he helped lead the Politics, Society, and Law Scholars, an academic and extracurricular program which hosts events to foster leadership. He attended Saint Ignatius High School where the school’s mantra “Men for Others” called him to a life of public service.

This summer, Riley will gain first-hand experience with SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid policy as a fellow with Cuyahoga Job and Family Services in the Virgil E. Brown Building. He developed interests in community outreach and public policy through his classes as well as internships with U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown and State Representative Rich Brown. Riley hopes to work in the Ohio Statehouse and looks forward to watching the Cleveland Browns with friends and family.

Ryan Head, Office of Innovation and Performance

Originally from New York City, Ryan is currently pursuing his Master of Public Affairs from the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. As part of his studies, Ryan is a Service Corps Fellow with the United Way of Monroe County, focusing on the organization’s education initiatives in the county. Prior to graduate school, Ryan worked as a Program Officer at Action Against Hunger, an international nongovernmental organization that saves the lives of severely malnourished children while helping vulnerable communities become self-sufficient. In this role, Ryan managed proposal and report development and review for over 25 grants, a process that involved over a dozen staff located around the world. He helped develop and implement a new grant management process to reduce the average time and number of steps needed for grants to be finalized and submitted, which was instrumental in delivering rapid lifesaving assistance. Ryan graduated from Oberlin College (Lorain County, Ohio) in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Religion, and is excited to be back in Ohio and contribute to the important work of the Office of Innovation and Performance at Cuyahoga County.

Ursula McVey, Department of Sustainability

Ursula McVey is currently attending CSU pursuing a bachelor’s in Environmental Studies. She has a passion for the environment and public wellbeing. Her plans for the future are to work in the sustainability department for a city of county government. When she is not at school or work she enjoys reading, exploring woodlands in Northeast Ohio, foraging invasive species and spending time with friends.
