Nepotism & Conflict of Interest Statement


The Cuyahoga County Code prohibits elected officials, employees or board members, either individually or as a member of a body, from:

  • Participating in any decision specifically to appoint, hire, promote, discipline, or discharge a relative for any position of the County.
  • Supervising a relative in the performance of the relative’s official powers and duties.
  • Securing any public contract in which the individual, a member of the individual’s family, or any of the individual’s business associates has an interest in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 2921.42.

County Code defines a Relative as:

  • An individual’s spouse, domestic partner, parent, grandparent, step-parent, sibling, step-sibling, sibling’s spouse, child, grandchild, step-child, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, first cousin, or household member, and persons having any of these relationships to the spouse or domestic partner of said individual.

All employees and elected officials are required to disclose Relatives that work for the County and all private business interests and associates involved with any matter before the County. All disclosures must be resubmitted to the AIG if any of the reported information changes or any new relationships develop.

The submitted form will be forwarded to Human Resources as well as the AIG and you will receive a confirmation email after submission.
