  • Traffic has been switched to the permanent bridge.
  • The temporary bridge has been removed, disassembled, and hauled off site.
  • Sidewalk/guardrails work has been completed.
  • Bridge railing installed (unpainted and uneven railing bolts will be addressed this spring.
  • Major area restoration work to begin this spring (surrounding landscaping, e-check parking lot, etc.).
  • Concrete stone pattern on the substructure and superstructure to be stained and sealed this spring.
  • Permanent utility line relocation work is currently taking place and to be completed this month.

March 8, 2024

  • Traffic has been switched to the permanent bridge.
  • The temporary bridge has been removed, disassembled, and hauled off site.

  • Traffic has been switched to the permanent bridge.
  • The temporary bridge has been removed, disassembled, and hauled off site.
  • Miscellaneous restoration tasks taking place around the project site including the Thornburg Station parking lot, and West Canal/Old Rockside intersection curb, paving business driveways on the west side of the bridge, etc.
  • Surface course asphalt and striping completed.

October 9, 2023

  • Traffic has been switched to the permanent bridge.
  • The temporary bridge is scheduled to be taken down in the upcoming weeks.
  • Miscellaneous restoration tasks taking place around project site.

September 28, 2023

  • Weather permitting, on September 29, 2023, Kenmore Construction will switch traffic on Old Rockside Road  Bridge over the Cuyahoga River within the limits of Independence and Valley View.
  • Traffic will now travel on the newly constructed permanent roadway just to the south of the temporary roadway.
  • Traffic will remain in this pattern permanently and the adjacent properties will be restored to their original condition.

August 22, 2023

  • A concrete deck for the permanent bridge has been placed.
  • Additional work on the parapets, sidewalk, and curbs to come in the upcoming weeks.
  • Traffic is still maintained via the temporary bridge.

June 9, 2023

  • Contractor has been working on completing concrete work for permanent substructures.
  • The contractor has placed permanent rock channel protection stone and is working on placing revetment system blocks along the east and west riverbanks.
  • Bridge beam delivery and erection of beams is scheduled for the end of June.
  • Old Rockside traffic is maintained via the temporary bridge.

April 18, 2023

  • The temporary bridge is currently open to traffic over the Cuyahoga River.
  • Pile driving work is currently taking place for the piers/abutments of the proposed permanent structure.
  • Access to the nearby businesses, parks, driveways, and roadways are all currently open and available for public use.
