Cuyahoga County Residents Can Join Co-Op To Go Solar Together, Get A Discount

Cleveland, Ohio – Cuyahoga County employees have formed a solar co-op to save money by going solar together. The Cuyahoga County Department of Sustainability and the City of Cleveland Mayor’s Office of Sustainability are partnering with the non-profit OH SUN to make it easy for employees, their neighbors and friends to go solar.
“We’re excited to be able to make this opportunity available,” said Mike Foley, Cuyahoga County Sustainability Director. “This is a great option for our community to reduce emissions and save money by going solar.”

The co-op is open to all county residents and employees. OH SUN expands access to solar by educating Ohioans about the benefits of distributed solar energy, helping them organize group solar installations, and strengthening the state’s policies and its community of solar supporters.
“I am excited to work with Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland. Solar works great in Ohio and there is about to be a lot more of it thanks to this co-op,” said Luke Sulfridge, OH SUN Program Director.
Cuyahoga County employees and residents interested in joining the co-op can sign up at www.OHSUN.org/Cuyahoga. Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Once the group is large enough, OH SUN will help the co-op solicit competitive bids from area solar installers.
Co-op members will select a company or companies to complete all of the installations. They will then have the option to purchase panels individually based on the installer’s group rate. By going solar as a group and choosing an installer, each participant generally saves up to 20% off the cost of their system in addition to existing Federal tax credits. OH SUN is part of a national program that has helped 1,200 Americans go solar over the last two years through 68 community co-ops.
