Electronic Monitoring Unit
The Electronic Monitoring Unit was established to provide an alternative sentencing option, ultimately helping to reduce jail overcrowding.
Types of offenders who may be referred for electronic monitoring:
- Sentenced Offenders,
- Pre-Sentenced Offenders (as a condition of bond),
- Domestic Violence Offenders
Individuals who are referred to home detention are required to wear an electronic monitoring device (ankle bracelet) and are restricted to their homes. Individuals may be permitted to work, attend religious services, doctor appointments, or tend to other personal needs.
The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department charges an initial set up fee for electronic monitoring.
Deputies are assigned to monitor and supervise offenders 24 hours a day. They use electronic monitoring software. Deputies may make unannounced visits to the individual's home or work.
