The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department is dedicated to community outreach. The goal is to build relationships and safer communities, while establishing connections with neighborhood residents, community groups, and businesses.

Crime Stoppers

QRCode-TipLineThe Crime Stoppers Program encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement in the fight against crime by overcoming FEAR and APATHY, the two key elements that inhibit community involvement.It relies on volunteer directors and tax-deductible contributions from the public in order to operate the administration of the program.

There are cash rewards up to $5,000.00. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if their information leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.


Victim Notification

  • VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) empowers victims and concerned citizens with timely and reliable information regarding offenders.
  • It allows victims of crime to check an offender’s custody status and get automatic notifications whenever there is a change.
  • It is free of charge to registrants, is anonymous, is available 24/7/365 and features multiple language support.

Rx Drug Drop Box Program

  • Drop boxes provides a safe, environmentally friendly way for citizens to dispose of their unwanted or unused prescription drugs.
    • Unused prescription drugs are typically the gateway to heroin abuse, as over 70% of Americans misusing painkillers obtain them from friends or relatives.
  • The CCSD has provided over 42 municipalities across Cuyahoga County with Drug Drop Boxes.

Explorers Post 701

Explorers
  • Explorer Post 701 is a group of young men and women in high school and college (ages 14 to adult) interested in the field of law enforcement. Areas of interest include Sheriff, Deputy Sheriff, Corrections Officer, Scientific Investigator and Dispatcher.
  • The program is administered by off-duty Sheriff's Office personnel. The program is sanctioned, insured, and follows the guidelines and rules set forth by the Boy Scouts of America Exploring Division.
  • Meetings are every Thursday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Classes include but are not limited to:
    • K-9 Handling
    • Special Weapons & Tactics Training
    • Fingerprinting
    • Handcuffing Techniques
    • Report Writing
    • Court Procedures
    • Sex Crime Investigation
    • Patrol and Traffic Techniques
    • Homicide Investigation
    • First Aid and CPR (only classes that are accredited)
  • The Sheriff's Office conducts an annual recruitment program. An Open House is scheduled in October where interviews are conducted. A student must sign up by November 15th of each year.

Background Checks

For individuals interested in obtaining a background check for employment, license, or certification purposes, the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department offers background check service to the general public at the Justice Center CCW License Office.

  • Background checks are provided by appointment only

Documentation Required:

  • Driver’s License or State issued I.D. Card
  • Documentation indicating purpose of Request for Background Check
  • Address of where Background Check is to be mailed.

Fees and Payment:

  • OHIO Web Check (BCI): $35.00
  • National Web Check (FBI): $35.00
  • OHIO and National Web Check (BCI & FBI): $65.00
  • Ink Rolled Fingerprints: $10.00 per card, cash or money order accepted
  • Cashier’s Check or Money Order ONLY, made payable to: Cuyahoga County Treasurer.
  • No Cash, Personal Checks, Business Checks or Credit Cards.
  • Simple Cuyahoga County Record Check is $10.00 (Available only at the Records/Warrants location)
