Requests for Test Rescheduling
You can now take most civil service tests online during a set testing window (typically about one week). You can take most tests either online from home or in person at the PRC’s computer lab. Your exam notification email has the details on how and when you can take your test. However, because you can take most tests at your convenience, rescheduling may not be available.
Below are situations the PRC would consider when evaluating a request for rescheduling. In some cases, you may need to submit the request form at the bottom of this page along with adequate supporting documentation.
In the Case of Technical Difficulties Taking an Online Test
If you experience technical difficulties trying to test from home through Synap, contact the PRC immediately at PRCEmploymentTesting@cuayhogacounty.gov. You do not need to submit further documentation, though we may ask you for information to help solve your specific problem. Make sure you contact the PRC and not Synap technical support, as they may not be able to solve your issue. If you contact us after normal business hours, then we will respond the next business day. If we find that your system does not meet the technical requirements, then we will advise you to take the test in our computer lab instead.
Testing Windows
Testing windows last approximately one week and always include at least one full weekend. You can also take tests on demand. This is intended to increase flexibility and convenience for testing. However, if you wait until the last day of the testing window and cannot test online due to technical difficulties with your home computer, the PRC may not extend the testing window. We will consider all factors, including whether the technical difficulties affected multiple test takers. If you are unsure about your home computer, the PRC strongly recommends you try to test as soon as possible during the testing window. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to make sure your system security settings are correct and your equipment is working.
For Scheduled, Non-Emergency Conflicts
If a scheduled, non-emergency conflict prevents you from taking a test during an entire testing window, or if it prevents you from attending a test scheduled for a specific date and time, you may submit a rescheduling request. You must submit your request using the form at the bottom of this page. You must also include adequate supporting documentation. You must submit the form and documentation within five (5) calendar days after receiving the notification email listing your testing date(s) and time(s). Below is the list of acceptable reasons and the documentation you must provide.
- REASON: Previously scheduled military commitment
DOCUMENTATION: A copy of your military orders or a letter from your commander/supervisor - REASON: Previously scheduled vacation
DOCUMENTATION: A copy of your travel documents or receipts that confirm your travel dates (such as hotel or plane reservations) - REASON: Previously scheduled in-patient medical procedure
DOCUMENTATION: Medical documentation - REASON: Previously scheduled jury duty or other court appearance
DOCUMENTATION: A copy of your jury summons, notice of hearing, etc. - REASON: Mandatory extended assignment for County business (for County employees only)
DOCUMENTATION: Verification from County personnel regarding your assignment
In the Case of an Emergency
We typically consider rescheduling requests due to an emergency for a test administration with a set date and time. However, if an emergency situation extends through most/all of an online testing window, the PRC will consider rescheduling your test. You must submit your request using the form at the bottom of this page. You must also include adequate supporting documentation. You must submit the form and documentation within one (1) calendar day after the original testing date or the closing of the testing window. Below is the list of acceptable reasons and the documentation you must provide.
- REASON: Death in your immediate family (Immediate family includes spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter, grandmother, grandfather, grandson, granddaughter, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, a legal guardian or other person who has an in loco parentis relationship with you, or any other relative residing with you.)
DOCUMENTATION: Death notice or obituary for the immediate family member - REASON: Emergency medical situation
DOCUMENTATION: Medical documentation - REASON: Public safety/emergency worker called in for duty
DOCUMENTATION: Adequate documentation supporting your emergency call into work - REASON: PRC error in the approval, notification, or scheduling process
DOCUMENTATION: Adequate documentation as necessary
Structured Interviews
We only allow rescheduling a structured interview in the case of an emergency. If you wish to request rescheduling, you must contact the PRC at (216) 698-2290 NO LATER THAN the day of your scheduled interview.
Reviewing Your Request
The PRC will review your request for rescheduling. If we accept it, then we will email you the details.
The PRC will attempt to minimize long delays in the testing process. We will extend testing windows only as long as absolutely necessary. If we need to schedule an extra session, then we will only schedule one. Whenever possible, we will attempt to finish testing within one (1) week of the original schedule.
If the PRC determines that you did not follow procedures or submit adequate supporting documentation, we will reject your request. You will have to test as originally scheduled.
If the PRC determines that you provided false information as part of your request, we will reject your request. You will also no longer be eligible to take the test. County employees may face potential discipline.
